![]() Free Dallas Music! Songwriter's Open Mic completed its production last Thursday night, November 20, at Half Price Books, Northwest Highway in Dallas. After about 70 dates with over 600 players, producers Tom and Jenni Peal are satisfied with their nearly three-year long community concert series. "Everyone Is Equal At the Laundromat," Jenni's unofficial theme song for the event, laid out the founding principles: FDM!SOM was a true community open mic where players could expect the respect of a dedicated stage set and a listening audience. Players and listeners were free to create their music and exercise their taste. Though local veteran songwriters including Annie Benjamin, Alex Whitmore, Christine Chochran, Rene' West, Lisa Byrn, Mister Troll, Bob Williford, Lisa Markley, Christine Hand, CC Cross, and many others participated in shows all through its run, FDM!SOM was also a popular first step for local emerging writers and players. Each show was special, personal, original. Diversity and surprising content could be expected every date. Tom and Jenni wish to thank Half Price Books Northwest Highway, and corporate, for being great hosts and providing an unbeatable atmosphere for artistic excellence and originality. Earth Rhythms and (our own) Moonlady, Uncle Calvin's Coffee House Calendar (Bill Nash), Miss Lana, and our friends at the Sons of Hermann receive our heartfelt gratitude for helping our production succeed through shared community. We also thank all of our internet angels who forwarded promotional e-mails along and www organizations without whom we could have not brought players from all over the country to our stage: myspace.com, ezfolk.com, openmics.org, dallasmusicwire.com. Thank you to all the players who came to be part of every show - thank you for sharing your music and trusting the production. You're the ones who made the production work, because your music is more than play to you. All players who took part in the Featured Performer series are thanked for treating an open mic like a gig, and special thanks go out to our guest directors Lisa Byrn, Karen Lee, Sally Ritchie, and Ken Turetzky. Performance art is immediate and fleeting. Tom and Jenni treasure their experience of freely sharing an original musical moment with Dallas.

Thanks to the Jonsson Central Public Library (Dallas) for including our music in their "Tuesdays at Central" series. Bob "Zen Bubba" Williford, Paul Marroquin and a great listening audience joined me for a lovely evening of original music.
