Biography

In the pioneer days of Texas (and many other places in the United States and on the western frontier), "play parties" were the special times children got to have together before the grownups would have a dance. An older child or adult would lead all the kids in traditional songs and dances that they all knew -- play-party games like "The Farmer in the Dell."
Miss Jenni's Pioneer Play Party is the researched children's traditional music project of Jennifer Mansfield Peal. Dressed as her own pioneer ancestor, she shares the songs and dances of early Texas with today's children -- they like to sing and dance as much as ever.
Jenni accompanies herself on mountain dulcimer, guitar, and concertina. Activities are child-centered and fun, with simple instruments that children play. Also a certified special education and teacher of the blind, Jenni makes sure that every child is included.
Jennifer Mansfield Peal, Miss Jenni, hopes to sing and play with children at festivals, in schools, at museums and libraries and for special events.
