This so far has to go down as ceilidh of the year, it has overtaken The Thompson Bash in the number one slot. There was a small space for the band and not a huge amount of room for the dancers considering their numbers. However, that made not a jot of difference to them, as they lined up for the first dance and after Lisa had walked them through it, we watched in amazement as they all showed a slick pair of heels, dancing in a crowded space perfectly and with only one man taking a trip. This 10/10 effort continued all night as the sizeable Scottish contingent led from the front and took the battle to the band, we tried to outplay them and they just kept coming back at us!! This crowd of wedding revellers, led by Alastair and Vicky were simply fantastic, they danced and danced and then danced some more. The adrenaline was really running high, and Alex confessed to being shaky after finishing one set of tunes watching these guys, it was that good. (Either that, or it was just low blood sugar as he hadn`t eaten since lunchtime!! - Noeleen) They performed a fantastic `Cumberland Square Eight` which we did a March, 2 Polkas and a Jig for them and they did superbly well at a version of `Strip the Willow`. For the Scots we also gave them `The Gay Gordon`s` and `St.Bernard`s Waltz` and it was great to see so many kilted men dancing. This was truly a superb effort and we really enjoyed this gig, and clearly they did too. Congratulations Alastair and Vicky, enjoy the memories. We will too. We recorded some of the material live and so look out for a new track which we will name after the couple - The Scottish Welch Set (Welch being their surname) |
