I grew up in London, learning classical music and playing in orchestras and chamber groups. I got hooked on folk music in my twenties, when I discovered first English Country Dance, and then Contra Dance. At first I refused to play for dancing - playing by ear was too hard, and dancing was too much fun! After I moved to Nashville it was inevitable I'd join a band. Then formed a new band, which plays for both English and Contra dance in and around Nashville.
Dance is my inspiration. I play for dancing, and my ambition is to lift people's feet and fill them with the joy of dancing. Rodney Miller was my first hero among contradance fiddlers. Becky Tracey is another wonderful fiddler. Barbara Lamb is my teacher, and Brad Leftwich is my favourite Old Time musician, whom I had the privilege of learning from at Montana Fiddle Camp.
