This is how I record my fiddle. I plug the computer mic (a Radio Shack lavalier-style, model number 33-3026) into an iMic adapter that makes a USB connection with my iMac. The same mic was used on my old PC directly into the soundcard's "Mic In" jack.

Here's a shot of the foam pad I use instead of a shoulder rest. It is held in place with 2 strips of hook-and-loop tape.

Here's what the attachment set-up looks like. Note that I put the "hook" section of tape on the pad, not the fiddle.
This probably only works if, like me, you bought an inexpensive import fiddle and aren't that concerned about the finish. ;)
