Biography
Castlebay has been playing Celtic music together and writing Celtic influenced music since 1987. We have toured the East coast from the Maritime Provences to Georgia and make frequent tours to Scotland to collaborate with Scottish musicians. Their recording catalog currently lists 12 CDs.

Julia Lane has won three international competitions on the folk harp. She has worked and recorded with artists on both sides of the Atlantic and is in demand as both a soloist and accompanist. Julia's dynamic style confounds the stereotypical idea of the folk harp as an instrument used to help insomniacs!
Julia is also a fine soprano whose voice has been described as "reminiscent of Jean Redpath".
She is also a songwriter and composer. Her CD,Song of the Sea(1998) contains ten songs and three harp solos. Since that time she has written several songs and co-wrote instrumental music for Sang O' the Solway, a concertpiece commissioned by the Dumfries & Galloway Arts Association in Scotland. This was performed several times throughout southwestern Scotland in 1999, 2000, and at the Celtic Connections Festival in 2001.

Fred Gosbee is a singer and multi-instrumentalist. He plays 12-string guitar, fiddle, viola, flute and whistles on the stage. He plays everal other instruments on their recordings but, hey, only so much stuff will fit in the car! Fred has written many songs dealing with historical stories of the Maine coast, many of which are often mistaken as traditional. He has also written a number of humorous songs as well, some of them are included on the 2004 release The Night the Whiskey Froze

Castlebay is a full time touring performance group and a juried member of the Maine Touring Artist Program and the New England Touring Artist Roster.

Castlebay, Where do I start? Your reading of these traditional ballades is like a letter from home. The arrangement of your voices & instruments is a delight to the ear. Though I'm not currently doing a great many traditional tunes, this piece has inspired me to delve back into this reach storehouse of material. Please continue this fine & lovely work, Peace, Coyote George
