Jo grew up around music with a violin teaching mother. She studied piano, but switched to guitar when her father conceded she couldnt drag that piano on a trip around Australia.
She first performed as a singer/songwriter/guitarist at 16.
Challenging herself to a culture shock, she moved from her parents quiet South Coast rural retreat to the busy streets of Kings Cross, where she busked to support herself as a journalism student.
It wasnt long before she had her first gig in a dimly lit little Jazz bar called Round Midnight in The Cross. There, she showcased her raw, unique talent and song writing ability, moving a sceptical city audience, somewhat unaccustomed to the profound, honest sound of a young acoustic songstress from the bush.
A bucket of hard earned buskers cash later, she bought a plane ticket to America where she worked at a summer camp in California teaching music to children and running songwriting workshops.
She returned to Australia settling in the Southern Highlands 10 years ago and has played both as a solo performer, in the duo Keltry with fellow songstress Sherri Olding and along side the likes of Steve Prestwich (Cold Chisel), Shane Pacey (Bondi Cigars) and will soon support Australias own Jack Johnson; Paul Greene.
Accompanied by her acoustic guitar, Jos songs are a folk/country mix with a distinct Australian flavour and reflect her life experiences. Songs such as Bundanoon and Kings Cross replicate her diverse and great story telling ability, whilst Magical Garden, Refugee and Pioneer Lady submit passions close to her heart.
Jo has just finished recording her Debut Album Magical Garden, a collection of 13 of her finest songs. The album features Jo on vocals, acoustic guitar and glockenspiel, Shane Pacey on lead guitar, bass and harmonica, Sherri Olding on flute, Gus Olding on fiddle and Dave Sell on drums.
