[insert song and memory and what it means to you here]...
I realize that an artist may write a song and it may seem to mean one thing but mean quite another or it may seem quite simple but be very deep or even vice versa...yes, duh, we all know this...so why I am I adding to this already over done topic of discussion?
Well, I just was thinking that no matter what the artist meant when he/she wrote it, once it is expressed and been impressed upon the minds of others then the meaning is almost lost in a way. Lost in the sense that no one will ever really understand completely what was felt by the artist-just relation. Relation may be the closest a person can get to understanding what someone means or feels. Once the song is transferred to another-the meaning is also transferred to that person.
Other than that, if relation does not occur, then it is all interpretation and circumstance...However a person interprets the song-what images the words and/or music provoke, what thoughts and feelings are aroused...then there is the question of circumstance as in what mind set the person happens to be in at the time or what natural and in general mindset the person already has. The experiences a person has had, how they grew up, cultural background, social class perhaps even...age, gender, etc.
And another-just the basic physical circumstances...setting, environment, geographical location, time period and time of day...
All of these factors go into how a song is felt and heard, how it is perceived and how it is interpreted and related to.
Why is that sometimes you know the instant you hear a song that you LOVE it? While others take time to grow on you and then turn to love? Why is it that every person no matter who they are or where they come from or what social "box" you want to put them in...why do they all love music...of some type? Any type, regardless of what you may or may not consider music? Everyone loves music.
Example: A poor boy who was always told he would never amount to crap...may take a listen to a song and see a chance to show the world otherwise. He may see the music as a hero, as a way to rise up the social latter where he may feel he has no other means...maybe just an outlet or maybe more...Or something as simple as a certain song was playing on the radio the moment you had your first kiss and forever that song will mean your first kiss to you(sorry if that song was Iron Man or something, though it does rock-not very romantic)...Or a song could express the hopes you have for your children or other loved ones ...Or a song or band when heard again immediately transport you back in time-either to a time where you felt happy, were younger, or simply make you think of the styles and events of a certain time period...Or...[insert song and memory and what it means to you here]...
Seriously...do it...
