Another year another grey hair (actually a whole bunch of 'em)

So I made it. 72 and counting. It's been a good year overall.

Put out a new CD wrote a handful of tunes and renewed some old friendships.

The OM scene is doing well here, and my friend John Carrillo ( www.johncarrillo.com ) is starting a new one in September at a great venue. Full stage in a new auditorium where concerts and stage plays are presented. The managment has set a menu in the adjoining restaurant with reduced prices for the musicians and the sound system is outstanding.

I'm still puttering around the house doing maintenance preparatory to selling and moving north to Oregon or Washington.

As usual I'm behind in keeping things up here at EZ, but I'll do better.

This presidential race is really a pain. Both the candidates are talking bigger government intrusion, bigger welfare, higher taxes and neither addresses the real issues, which in my mind, are REDUCE THE SIZE OF THE GOVERNMENT and stop spending money on frivolous crap.

For example $3,000,000,000 to study the DNA of black bears. If it's that important some business (pharmacutical or other such), can fund the damn thing. True three mill ain't all that much, but it would surely help in other areas of application that would not be pissing the budget (your money and mine), away. This example is just one of the many wasteful ways "Our" servants care for our welfare and manage "Our" money.

I think they should concentrate on cleaning house. Both houses of the legislature could start by getting rid of "earmarks" and riders on bills that don't apply directly to the purpose of the bill.

Another thing would be to stop all the subsidies to various businesses. Especially those ridiculous ones that pay farmers for NOT GROWING XYZ. And this "Ethanol" crap is just as bad. The planet may be hurting, but the production of ethanol with corn causes nearly as much pollution as it supposedly will reduce, and causes ripples in the world food supply that increases starvation in under-developed countries.

But then we put these yoyo's in office, pander to their vanity by helping to keep them there and deserve what we get.

End of political rant. (GRIN)

On the lighter side, I blew the alternator in the truck enroute to a gig. I was stalled in the middle of an intersection and managed (solo) to push the truck around a corner out of traffic, almost.

While I was trying to figure out what the problem was (fuses, loose wire etc.), a passerby asked if I could use some help. "I know absolutely nothing about automobiles", he said. But I can get some help to push you into the parking lot up ahead.

So he got on his cellphone and called his familly. In about 10 minutes 9 people showed up and they pushed my truck about 60 yards into the public lot of a shopping center. There are real public minded citizens in the world. You just don't run into them often enough. I, of course, thanked them profusely and offered to buy them some drinks or sandwiches in appreciation. They refused, and just said to pass it on.

Brightened my day. So I got a tow home, pulled the alternator that night and replaced it the next morning. Alls well that ends well, but I'll not forget the gracious generosity of that man and his family.

Friday (my birthday 8-15) I went to an OM and the entire room (about 30 people), sang Hippo Birdsday when I walked in. Brought a tear to me eye.

The best things in life are the people you meet, the respect you give and receive, and waking up to another day.

Bless you all, and as I learned January 1 1981 when I got hit by 150 tons of mud, 3 houses and 4 automobiles and ended up on crutches for 9 months, the most important thing is to put one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward. If you do that and repeat as necessary, your rearend will follow and life will be great.

Things like that are just mother nature,s (GOD's if you prefer), way of making certain that your life doesn't get boring.

Like the Chinese say "May you live in interesting times."
