Song Information:
On September 4th, 1995, a group of Natives started a protest in Ipperwash Provincial Park, Ontario to draw attention to the decades-old land claims. These people were protesting trying to draw public attention to the fact that their reserve had been expropriated to build a military base during WWII with the understanding it would be returned after the War. Instead part of it was turned into a Provincial Park and the rest was used as a summer training camp for army cadets.

Although the protesters purpose was peaceful, a riot squad was sent in and in the ensuing confusion, an unarmed protester was shot and killed.

I wrote this song as a way to make sense of an appalling news story.

The controversy in Ontario over this event continues to this day as there is currently a government inquiry investigating these events.
