A friend of mine recently retired from teaching after 40 years. His very last day of substitute teaching was in the very classroom that he attended grade 1. Talk about full-circle. I knew I had to write a song about it.

1) A little school, a little room, lined up in little rows
little chairs and little desks for the little boys and little girls.
A Momma holds her little boy a little tight and a little long.
A teacher waits with a little sparkle in her eyes and a great big smile.
It's the first day of school
