Biography
Like so many others, Bill Furner of San Francisco took up the guitar in the early 1960s. His ability quickly led him to progress past simple chord structures and move into the much more demanding world of fingerpicking. Like so many of his generation he was conscripted to fight in Vietnam, but even there, his guitar was a constant companion and he even made time to give guitar lessons to his comrades. When hostilities finally ceased, Bill returned to civilian life and began to play bars in the Bay area. He drew inspiration from a wide range of players including Chet Atkins and Leo Kottke, and anyone listening to his music today will be astonished to find he is certainly their equal in both technical ability and composition. Drawing on a wide range of styles, Bill's repertoire includes folk, blues, ragtime, jazz, country and classical music. Bill is an undiscovered talent on a par with greats like John Dahey, Davy Graham and John Renbourn. His melodies are beautifully set within intricate but simple sounding settings. This is genuinely definitive folk guitar music from a master.
