Multi-talented,artist Dan Tindall has  really caught attention to many of us here on EZ Folk. I can hear influences of CSNY, Bob Dylan combined with his own style. Many of his lyrics will get into your head thinking about what's going on in the world...and they all have a special meaning... His vocals are often accompanied with his awesome sounding acoustic guitar, some very interesting Slide gutiar in some songs, mandolin and harmonica. All very well played and produced and recorded.  He has several publications that bring some great recording tips. I been hooked on Dan's music ever since my 1st listen.

Thank you Dan for giving me the honor of this interview to share with all your fans here on EZ Folk!

Holley Hall : What is your music background?

Dan Tindall
:
I have been in rock bands, punk bands, folk-rock bands - all sorts of stuff, but always return to writing and playing acoustic folk music, which is the reason I first learnt to play the guitar and write songs.

Holley: Do you prefer to play music as a profession or a hobby?

Dan Tindall:
It's just part of my life, whether I get paid or not.

Holley: When and how did you first become interested in music? How long have you been playing music? what instruments do you play?

Dan Tindall:
As long as I can remember!
Guitar, resonator, mandolin, harmonica, bass guitar.

Holley: Does anyone in your family play music?

Dan Tindall:
I think I have a cousin who plays the trumpet - but doesn't everybody?

Holley:  What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Dan Tindall:
I think of them as stories - I usually try to avoid a specific target, except perhaps as an inspiration, because you can't be both poetic and fair in 3 minutes or so. My major obsessions are the inequity of life, and the human condition. I also don't like politicians very much!

Holley:  Do you write your own songs?
Dan Tindall:
I write all my own songs - and I tend to write them in one of two ways.  Sometimes I write a lyric (or a draft for a lyric) and then edit and workshop to get shape and a melody to make it work. Other times, I just think of a phrase or a musical motif, and let it grow naturally. I like both ways of working - it keeps the process fresh.

Holley: Who are your musical influences?

Dan Tindall: Fred Neil, Lou Reed, Leadbelly, Bob Dylan, The Smiths, Roger McGuinn, David Crosby, Planxty, Syd Barrett, The Dubliners, Slim Harpo,
Led, Zeppelin, Gram Parsons, Doc Watson, Eddie Vedder - to mention a few!

Holley: What live performance experience have you had?

Dan Tindall: I have played more gigs over the years than I care to remember! I'm a little more choosy about what I do these days...

Holley: What are your musical goals?

Dan Tindall:
To connect with others without resorting to industry trickery - and to write some half-decent songs!
