I have problems with chord F9 here http://www.nfo.net/usa/uke2.html
It seems to me that there is no F in the F9 chord given here. Is this chord OK? What is the definition of the F9 chord?

I should let someone with some actual musical k-AH-nowledge respond... but with 4 strings, sometimes it's just the "idea" of the chord.  An f9 is 2333 on the uke.   Wonderful chord.

C'mon music theory buffs, answer this.

The problem is when I play this 2333 F9 in the song it dosen't soud good, but if I play
F add9 on a guitar in the same song, it is OK.  In my  guitar  book there is no  chord denoted  by F9 (but F add9  exists).  F add9  in  a gutar is  AFACG. The same chord on
uke is 0010  GCFA. But I can't find this chord here http://www.nfo.net/usa/uke2.html
How do you call chord 0010? (I have never learnt music theory.)

F9= the notes F A C Eb (F) G

The chord on the uke, 2333 = the notes A Eb G C

Without knowing the context for the chord, (which is really important here), it could be the lack of the F that makes it sound weird or the addition of the Eb, which is not in the "add 9" chord (which is actually just an add 2 chord--same thing).

Try different voicings on the uke, like:

0010 (a simple add 9), or

0313 (the 9th minus the A), or

8553 (even a stretch on the soprano), or

5756 (better)

I have a feeling it's the seventh (the Eb) which is throwing things off.

As already stated, the F9 is F-A-C-Eb-G.  When you extend chords in the "classical" manner you have to include the intervening intervals beyond the triad, in this case the Eb or 7th is critical to the color and function of the chord.  The uke only having 4 strings, the note that makes the most sense to leave out is the 5th. I like 0310, 0112, or 2143 as F9.

Fadd9 is a 4 note chord, F-A-C-G.

To overly simplify things, think of the Fadd9 as a "color" chord, and the F9 as a chord that is imparting direction, like to Bb. As UkeForever says, context is the most important thing.

UkeForever and neilg, thank you. I am going to play
with a guitar player. So if he plays F9, I can play Fadd9 or simply F, since both are contained in F9. Am I right? The problem is that I don't like the song in question with "uke F9", but with F and Fadd9 it  sounds good.

You could also play F7 with the guitar. You'd be leaving out the 9th of the chord instead of the 7th. Try both.

I often have to try out a lot of different voicings before I find one that suits... and what works in one song may not work in another, especially when we are talking about a five note chord on a four string instrument.

BUT  this is my go to site for finding uke chords that really work, and that go well beyond the basics:

http://chordlist.brian-amberg.de/en/ukulele/standard/Emaj9/da.html

Bookmark it.  You will find lots of options there.

I just looked up F9 at Brian's [http://chordlist.brian-amberg.de/en/ukulele/standard/F9/da.html]  and I was interested to see that 2333 was not given as an option.  There are several others however;  you should see if you like any of them better.
