Got a uke for Christmas and have been playing around with it more recently. Any recommendations for practices? Anything I should surely learn first? Also can anyone recommend a good tuner for the Ukulele. I am looking to get one. I can't tune worth a damn. Any good exercizes to get faster fingers? Also if anyone can recommend some ukulele players to check out then please do! Thanks for any and all help in advance.

Hi Vince, You can hear some good uke music on Uke Jackson's Flamining Ukulele Hour. Each hour-long broadcast contains a wide variety of some of the best uke players. There are six of these shows archived on ezFolk and you can find them at the following address... http://www.ezfolk.com/uke/ujradio/index.html The show is broadcast live each week at wnti.org also. Look for UJ's messages about times and playlists. As far as learning, be sure to try my uke tutorials. Here are some links... Strumming Patterns for the Ukulele: http://www.ezfolk.com/uke/Tutorials/Strumming/strumming.html Fingerpicking the Ukulele: http://www.ezfolk.com/uke/Tutorials/Fingerpicking/fingerpicking.html Clawhammer Ukulele: http://www.ezfolk.com/uke/Tutorials/Clawhammer/clawhammer.html Everybody should have an electronic tuner. You can find some that are suitable for the uke on the following page: http://www.ezfolk.com/uke/Shopping/Tuners/tuners.html Two good choices are the Korg CA-30 Chromatic Tuner and the Qwik Tune QT-2. Both are less than $20. The Intellitouch tuners are really popular and work great on guitars and banjos, but SOMETIMES they won't fit on ukes, so the others might be a better choice. Good Luck!

I checked into lessons and I have been looking at tuners. The lady that teaches at the only store that I went to teaches Guitar, Bass, Ukulele, and Banjo. I think she might be spreading herself too thin and might not be concentrating on Uke. I left my number anyways and will talk to her (hopefully) this week. I also checked into tuners. There was a sabine with a metronome for around 40 bucks. I can use it for Ukulele(primary) bass (Second) I have just never heard of the brand and was wondering what anyone thought about it. I bet I can find it cheaper too. Also who is everyone's favorite Uke player. I dig Jake Shimabukuro. Seen him 3 times. He's fantastic.

Hey Vince... have you seen Jake's website? He's got some free video lessons on there that are good. He's also got a new CD with a uke tutorial of some type. Here's the link to his site in case you don't have it... http://www.jakeshimabukuro.net/
