I tried to do my research first by going through the past posts with no luck so here goes. I would imagine that when I receive my first uke "Lanikai LU-21 Tenor" that the strings will probably be low level (just my guess -since this uke is entry level too). Would the D'Addario Tenor Ukulele/Hawaiian, J54 be an acceptable replacement? Any suggestions on other brands would be appreciated. And is the wound string any harder to play than the all nylon? Thanks for help.

I've got a tenor and use nylguts, I like them, but a few posts ago someone mentioned that they couldn't slide up as easily with them. I don't have that problem. My next string change will be Ko'olau Golds. I think what you're going to eventually have to do is just experiment, there's a wide range of preference here, from Worth's, which I find too thin, to Aquilla, to GHS Black to D'Addarrio. Besides, they're cheap. And it's a lot easier changing these than guitar or mandolin strings. Wound string? You're looking at low G on the tenor, so again, experiment. My gut (ha)reaction would be that the nylon low G would be easier to play, the wound have a deeper voice. I have never played a wound string before. I have a Tenor with a 3rd wound string (Hilo Blacks) It was very difficult to play and it didn't sound that great, it could be my playing. I'm switching to regular strings. Have never tested the D'Addarios. I like the Aquila nylguts.

Aquila makes a set for tenor that is all Nylgut, no wound. That set will sound nice on the LU-21T. They did on mine. I since sold my first uke to pay for others, and the lady that bought it gave it to a brother-in-law as Christmas gift. The guy who owns it now is in love with ukes and plays the thing all the time. I'm glad to see it carried on its purpose. Purportedly, Worth has some good non-wound sets as well. Worth just look to "regular" to me, but they are supposed to be superior in consistency and tone. Thanks to All for info. I will take some advice and order a set of Nylgut and a set of Ko'olau Golds. That should get me started on the right track.
