Question: Has anyone here tried the WORTH "EASY PLAY" strings for soprano uke for child ? Wondering if I should try these for a (beginner) uke gift for 8-yr old. (I got Aquila on another uke for ar 5-yr old). Previous posts indicated the Worth BM (medium) were sometimes better than Aquila.

No--do you have a link? Are they really low tension or something?

http://worthstrings.com I read about these Worth strings on one of these ezFolk Forums; they were really raving about them esp the BM or Brown Medium I recall. (sorry, searched but couldn't find that post just now), They have a BL "Brown Light" strings the mfger claims to be "softer" and "milder" (than their clear strings. Not cheap, on mfger website approx $12-14, but IMHO worth it if makes it easier for a child, newbies.

Keep in mind the length of the strings are enough for 2 and 3 sets respectively for the 46" and the 63".

So if they make at least two sets, they're comparable in price to other strings - got it. Last edited on Thu Dec 20th, 2007 03:09 am by b-uke |

Oh--I thought we were talking about a new Worth designation. They have so many -- CH, CM, BL, BM, etc., it gets confusing. I use Worth now almost exclusively because I like the way they sound on vintage instruments. I lean toward the brown lately. Brown Mediums are a great all-purpose string. I think the CM strings--the clear mediums--are really easy to play, and if you're stringing a uke for a child, those might be ideal.

You think the Worth CM's would be better/easier to play than Aquila?

b-uke wrote: You think the Worth CM's would be better/easier to play than Aquila? For me, the answer would have to be: yes. My Glyph Mezzo-soprano came with a set of Aquilas. They were fine, sounded fine, good volume, only a bit floppy for me and very easy to pull out of tune on barres or wierd fast chords. I like Worths but decided to just use the Aquilas anyway. After a couple months I sort of got used to them. Recently, they were starting to show some wear, so I restrung it up with a set of Worth CM. I immediately felt the difference in slightly higher tension, a more "crisp" or clear sound. Not as easy to pull out of tune. I'll be using Worth CM's on this mezzo from now on..
