Folks, I have a spruce top Lanikai 6 string 0-6 that I like, but I find the action is a bit hard up near the nut. Is that just the nature of tenor ukes, or can this be modified?

Latro wrote: Folks, Tenor ukes will have a naturally higher string tension than smaller concert and soprano ukes due to the longer scale and the thicker strings needed to reach the same pitch. Add the tension 2 extra strings on a 6-string tenor, and you may find the necessary force to fret the strings to be a lot greater than you are used to. It is possible, but rather risky without experience, to file the string grooves of the nut down a bit, but you would need the right tools (people have mentioned small tools for cleaning the tips of welding torches); you may risk cracking the nut or filing them down too much and end up with string buzz. I have set up all of my guitars myself, but I have never filed down nut grooves, nor removed the nut and file down the bottom of the nut with sandpaper. I own the Lanikai 8-string O-8E tenor uke, but I had developed my fret hand strength by playing 12-string guitar for several years beforehand. Try using a hand and finger exerciser to strengthen your fret hand: ![]() Last edited on Wed Oct 21st, 2009 01:36 am by Will ____________________ Will http://ezfolk.com/audio/bands/297/ Loose Change & Friends http://ezfolk.com/audio/bands/245/ http://loosechangeandfriends.com The Earth Tones http://ezfolk.com/audio/bands/337/ A Bunch Of Coconuts http://abunchofcoconuts.com |
