It's been quite a while since I added something here, not sure why. I just loaded Greasy Coat, on which I double-track on my Goldtone banjos, the Wl-250 and my new CEB-5 cello banjo. Both are in A-modal tuning, the cello is an octave lower.

That Cello Banjo really adds to it, doesn't it?

The cello banjo is very fun to play, although as a solo instrument it is really a novelty or niche instrument, at least for the most part. But, it really opens up possibilities for interesting accompaniments. I've always been pretty solo in my playing. Or, in old-time music situations were everyone who had a melody instrument played the melody.

Although that's all I'm doing here, I'm more interested in learning how to do bass-line accompaniment. Of course, this means I have to learn something new.:P

Only one verse to the song? ;)

Never heard a cello banjo before. Interesting.

I have seen four verses, all pretty similar. The three that I have not sung were definitely written recently. the one I sing might be old, but I doubt it.

Go to youtube and search for Cathy Fink Coleman's March. You'll see a duet of Cathy Fink on banjo and Marci Marxer on cello banjo (a 4-string one tuned like a 'cello). Marci Marxer has single-handedly inspired interest in this instrument, and Wayne Rogers, the owner of Gold Tone, has designed both 4 and 5 string versions. Mine is a 5 string, and I've had it for just under two weeks.
