Hey Dean,  The first concertina I bought was a small square box with 10 buttons on it and I would sit around and just pick out songs,   Then I bought this big one that has 31 buttons on it, It looks like a accordion but it has no bass side on it, just treble buttons.  I will most likely put a few more on till I get my bum-dity working,

I may do like you, just invent my own style.    I did buy a Dulcijo from michael Fox and Richard the other day, intend to do a review on it in a few days.

Oh btw, I hope I did your state song OK.  The group I play with at our church did a  birth day party for some people that were down here and when we played Home on The Range, They all stood up and we did not know it was the state  song till then, They thought we knew and was doing it for them because it was their song.

Now we're talking!:):)

Over 20 years ago an old muscian told me that the music is in our head...everybody has a song, their own song, and it's up to them to listen to it, and make their instrument of choice play it. I've never forgotten that...even though it's taken nearly 2 decades to start playing and finally realize what it means.

YES....you did Kasas very proud!!!:)

Herewith I announce the release of my latest work: "My Western Home", aka "Home On The Range".

http://ezfolk.com/audio/play.php?band_id=5&song_id=4093&mode=song_hifi
http://ezfolk.com/audio/play.php?band_id=5&song_id=4093&mode=song_lofi

You will, hopefully, excuse the performance. I did the fiddle work in the garage into a portable tape cassette player and transfered it to the computer. After cleaning up the really bad verses, I added the 2-finger banjo pattern, matching as best I could the fiddle track. Finally I layered in the vocal.

The words and tune vary some from most folks idea of this song. I did a little research and found the original words and music on the NPR site, here:

http://www.npr.org/programs/morning/features/patc/homeontherange/

The song was orginally titled "My Western Home," and originally never contained the well-known phrase "Home on the range."

Very interesting version, and history about the song,  I like it both ways and glad you brought it to us like that.

You are doing a great job on that fiddle, and put the other banjo and voice all togeather, Real good

I have a little 4 track recorder that I am trying the same thing and almost have it but I want to start all over maybe tomorrow, I lost controll of my rythum and got off to far because I could not hear the other track well enough.

I really like your take Brad! The fiddle/banjo combo gives it a very old timey feel. Thanks for the history lesson too!

I also thank you for the link to the alternate lyrics and the history of the tune. I'm also digging the fiddle sound...very mournful and adds a nice touch to the song.

Thanks,

Pete

Hi there Ezfolkzzzzzz!

The Sheriff's version is  available on:

http://ezfolk.com/audio/play.php?band_id=964&song_id=4167&mode=song_hifi

http://ezfolk.com/audio/play.php?band_id=964&song_id=4167&mode=song_lofi

this verion was played with my band Dustbin Threesome... It's a joke, please don't be offended. Peace!
Oh, by the way, here are the modified lyrics:

Home On The Rancho

When I come home, I am drunk and too late, still my meal is served hot on my plate.
She washes the dishes, my commands are her wishes, let me tell you she's the hottest date...

Come come to me girl, 'cause you know that I am the best, I'm arrogant but true sometimes I think of you, I'm the best so forget about the rest.

Interesting take. Is that a meloldy maker or a squeeze box of some kind?

Welcome to ezfolk.

I'm thinking you maybe meant melodica? That's what it sounds like to me.

Yes HH; you got it right, it's melodica. It's one of those cheap ones for kids...
We like to perform with selfmade instruments en childrens toys.
by the way I should appologize for the terrible soundquality but it is a live recording with just a few microphones. If you'd like to hear something different:
I have a band called 'Les Mecs Du Nord' wich means de 'fellas from the north' and we play mean swing. And I try to sing in French ;-) Nice ukule work and superfine fiddle!!! If you'd like to check it out feel free: http://www.lesmecsdunord.com

Cheers Guys,
The Sheriff

Thanx 1four5,

It's a song we play every gig, altough we changed the lyrics in a not so friendly fashion, people seem to like. ( me too ;-) )

Anybody out there who could describe Dustbin Threesome? People allways ask me what kind of music we make and I find it hard to describe. Can I call it jugbandmusic when there's not actually a jug in the band?

Cheers,

Thanks, HH, that's what I meant, the ol' skull cells were being senior at the moment.

Sheriff - how about something like  "Kitchen Table" type music. You use what you find around the house and make music with it.

Now I'll go listen to the other band. Rats! Says 'site not found' :(

Ooopss,
That's right, It should be http://www.lesmecsdunord.be instead of .com
Sory 'bout that.
Kitchentable music, I might try that for the poster of our gig the 16th of april and see what people think about it! Tnx!
By the way I'd like to thank HH for pointing me out this forum, this is fun!
Cheers,

I just finished listening to the songs by Les Mecs du Nord. Tres cabaret! You guys swing.

Is that you on the lead vocals, Sherriff? Wish I was educated enough to understand what you are singing.

I especially like Quand y en a Mare, though the Babelfish translator let me down badly on that one. It said "When there pond has". Ce qui?

I liked the arco bass fiddle work in there and also the nod to La Vie en Rose at the end. Is that a banjo or a banjo uke in there? The arrangement reminded me of Les Chauds Lapins ( http://www.leschaudslapins.com/ ). I think you might like 'em, check 'em out.

HH

Glad you liked it! 'Quand y en a mare' means. 'If you're tired of it all'. It's a song about ups and downs...
Yep! That's me on vocals, too bad the boys don't join me now and then for a chorus... I guess they will in the future.
Funny thing is: I would send you the lyrics if I could write french. My father is french my mother is dutch. I can speak french quiet fluently but I can't write a word down.
I'll try to make a tgranslation next week and send it to you.

I'm going to forward your message to our bass player, 'cause he's really not all that keen on his own bass-fiddlin' job... Me too I like it tough.

You hear Remco (the most wicked Banjo and uke player in europe, offcourse that's just my opinion ;-) ) at the end of the song on his plectrum-banjo.
Remco plays with the dustbin threesome since a week now.

Cheers,

If you could write the lyrics in French I'd still be in the dark. Can't read it any better than I can speak or understand it.

I can speak and write English with reasonable fluency and I have just enough Spanish to get me into trouble in the wrong neighborhoods.

Lyric sheets and/or translations would be interesting and a good addition to your web site but don't go out of your way for me. I dig the tunes even if I don't understand the words.

Oh... and tell your bass player I'd run over Charles Colson's grandmother -- right there in her own driveway -- to have a standup bass player of his caliber to work with.

HH

Great Gerry,   It sounds like you have them singing with you, We can get quite a respose from some of the  residents and the more they sing the more they wan't to,

It does bring back a lot of memories for them.

Great job and maybe we can talk Richard into having a genre just for Nursing home music.
