My friend has phoned me from Canada to tell me that he had already the guitar with him and he has played it for me, Imagine, I could not believe the sound.. and it was by phone! It was so powerful and clear! I would describe it like R.Johnson sound, So the really very first impression could not be better! Next one will be the real important as far I will be playing it, and it will have more to be with the action, etc, but my friend says that is a real pleasure to play it.

Yeahh!!! I had the Larrivee Parlor P-09 late last night, It´s a dream come true. I undertand now why people is so surprise with the volume on theese such a small bodied guitars. I have to say that the size is a little bit funny, I mean they are realy small, but the sound is so great that who cares about looking funny with it, mostly because besides the sound is also so confortable to play that you can´t stop playing it. It is perfect for fingerpicking , and I also like it for light struming, I do not use flat pick so I can not say.The action is pretty low, I think it couldn´t be lower as I think the 5th and mostly the 6th string buzz a little bit if played strong, but I am still in my first hours with it to know well. Anyway It is a real pleasure to play it and also to ear it. I find the basses and mediums great with a lot of sustain and also the highs are nice. I guess is what is expected in a guitar of this quality but I have been trying many guitars around in the stores for the last year and I never had such a good feeling with any of them. This is realy what I was looking for the style of music I mostly play (fingerpicking country blues, blues and folk). Construction and finish are perfect to my eyes, the guitar is gorgeus and so is the hard case it comes with. I did take a risk ordering a guitar with out trying it first myself but It couldn´t be better. My friend did a good job and he is also thinking on buying one next year as he has fall in love with it, he couldn´t stop saying " don´t worry if you don´t like it I keep it for me..." As soon as possible I will try to post a picture of my Larrivee P-09. Thanks JD for all your help

I just ordered a AMI Cedar in AB and it comes in a gigbag. It seems like a great guitar and great value for that price. Now living in sweden the conditions in the winter aren't the best for a guitar(it gets very dry) I have already lost one guitar cos of the weather, although it's now playable again it cost me allot of money to get it fixed and it's not quite the same as before. Even if the Ami is quite cheep I'd like it to last so I'm getting a case and a humidifier to keep it safe. The humidifier I get from the local shop but when i comes to the case I'd like some advice. I could get it from my local store but then I'd end up with some plastic one and that doesn't sit right with me. I'd like a real old-school vintage type case(maybe TKL?) If anyone know of any cases that fit the Ami please tell me which ones they are.

You will need a Size-0/parlour hard case. TKL (also known as "Canadian") makes such as case that fits the AMI/Seagull Grand perfectly. I found one on sale at a local music store - it sold for $80 US, but since that shop no longer carried the Seagull Grand, it sat around for a long time until they marked it down to $50, and I bought it. http://elderly.com/accessories/items/GCEV-PARLOR.htm ![]() Last edited on Fri May 9th, 2008 06:03 pm by Will ____________________ Will http://ezfolk.com/audio/bands/297/ Loose Change & Friends http://ezfolk.com/audio/bands/245/ http://loosechangeandfriends.com The Earth Tones http://ezfolk.com/audio/bands/337/ A Bunch Of Coconuts http://abunchofcoconuts.com |

Gonna keep an eye out for one of those. Thanks for the advice. Do you know if it's the same as the TKL7875 found on their site http://www.tkl.com/?siteid=search&qsearch=parlor&sh=Guitar%20-%20Parlor%20/%203/4%20Size

I don't know if Elderly Instruments ships to Sweden, or how much it would cost for shipping.

Yeah I'm gonna get screwed either way here. If I buy it close to home I'll have to pay overprice and otherwise I'll have to pay shipping. At least now I know what to look for so a big thanks to you Will.

Elderly does ship overseas. I'm likely going to import two from them for the same reasons as you. I also have to keep my guitars in cases in winter as the house just gets too dry. I put a damp cloth in a plastic bag, leave the top of the bag open and put the bag under the neck where it doesn't directly touch the guitar. I'm using a classical guitar case for my Larrivee and an old and pretty bashed up cheapie for the Ami. My other guitar is stashed in the spare room with the door closed. When I get some spare cash a few months down the track I want to replace both cases and the third guitar can move to the classical case.

I can only find the price for Instrument deliveries by ups on elderlys site. Shipping for a guitar(size of a hardcase?) is 245$ to Sweden? Anyway I don't have my guitar just yet. It was on backorder and I really hope they get a new shipment soon.

Just got a mail from Elderly instruments and they can ship it for 73.50 USD to sweden. That might sound as much for some of you but Even with customs thats cheaper than buying it here in Sweden. The parlor case doesn't seem to be available here but all the other TKL premier cases costs the equivalent of 280 USD in sweden.

I was a little worried when I read that Art & Lutherie only made one batch of these a year. For a moment there I thought I was gonna have to wait till next year but it now seems like it's been shipped. This means I should get it by tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

Excellent! I was just sitting here playing All My Friends Are Gone and Spike Driver on mine, admiring the sound for such a low cost guitar! They truly are a wonderful fingerpicking blues instrument and so comfortable to play. You'd never pry mine away from me. I recorded a couple tunes through my very awful computer onboard mic (which I am not going to share, the quality is awful as I said) and the Ami records through that better than my Larrivee for some reason. I want to get a decent mic and have another go-round but I don't want to buy one so I'll see if there's one kicking around work I can borrow. If not, it will have to wait until I get around to buying a sound hole pickup. The new Guild GAD F-20 with a passive pickup installed has just arrived on our shores and with any luck Ill get to try one sooner or later.

I am also thinking on buying a hole pick up for the Larrivee P-09. Do you know wich ones are right?. It,s a shame you don,t share your recording, sure it is interesting even if the sound is not perfect. It,s now three weeks that I am playing the Larrivee and I love it.

No idea, unfortunately. If you find out, let me know! The only thing I know about them so far is it's important to know if they'll fit in the soundhole, lol. The Ami soundhole is a little smaller than standard. Some people have adapted them to fit. The only thing I'm sure is I'm definitely not poking any holes in my guitars. Actually a mic would do me fine, I'll probably look a bit more intently into one of those. Apparantly a mic for a laptop is not the same as a mic going to a ...well, whatever they go to. So I'll be looking for a quality computer mic of some sort.

The Ami soundhole is a little smaller than standard. Some people have adapted them to fit. There's another thread on the subject somewhere on this forum, but the Ami's soundhole is indeed too small for a soundhole pickup to fit. I own a Seagull Grand parlour guitar that is the same size and design as the Ami, and I've tried several times with different brands of soundhole pickups, but they're too large to fit, and I had to return them. I read someplace about filing one down to fit, I think it was the Bone (the wooden model made of maple maybe?) I'm going to go with a mic. I've been reading that the soundhole ones make the acoustics sound metalic, which is the last thing I want. I don't know if it's true or not but like I said, a mic will do for my purposes anyway.

I was just about to order a hardcase from Elderly since I found out UPS isn't the only freight alternative. Problem is, when I'm about to check out from their web store UPS is the only alternative. So I have to pay UPS cost, write to elderly, or call, and make them change it to normal shipping and then refund me the ups cost which I assume is charged to my credit card as soon as I place the order. Why is it so difficult? Oh, and by the way. My guitar was delayed and should show up tomorrow. I'll let you now how I like it. Last edited on Mon May 26th, 2008 07:32 am by sinatora |

There are quite a few videos on youtube that have the Ami parlor and other sizes of Art and Lutherie guitars. There weren't any when I bought mine. Godin makes good guitars.
