I'm waiting for a new Tenor Uke to arrive. While I'm waiting, I've heard of Tenors being tuned to DGBE similar to a Baritone but with a reentrant D being an octave higher. I'm pretty sure a low D is pretty much out of the question on a Tenor Uke due to floppy strings.

Some websites mention that this used to be a popular tuning, but I haven't heard much else about it. It would be nice to be able to play along with a group using all the guitar books I already have without having to transpose in my head.

Does anyone here tune to a reentrant D tuning? What string combinations would you suggest?

you can tune a tenor like a baritone fairly easily, (including the low D and all) I would order a pair of superior tension alchema Aquila Nylgut classical guitar strings.

To get proper tension, rather than using the guitar DGBE strings, which would be too slack; you use the guitar ADGB (the middle 4) and tune them each up a fourth to DGBE.

If your really deadset on reentrant aquila makes reentrant tenor dGBE with a high D

Thanks,

I just learned about the Aquila set. I'm still waiting for my Tenor to arrive, and I'm sure I'll have a blast with it until time to change strings, then I'll start experimenting.

Thanks for the reply!

David
