I'm trying to find some string for my Mele Baritone. I see on most sites that they only have the 4-String GCEA Baritone strings. I Know i could just buy two of those but i'd like to have the High & Low "c" String that tenor ukuleles have. Anybody??

It may be very difficult to find what you are looking for.  8-string baritone ukes (vs. 8-string tenor ukes) are already extremely rare, custom-made-only instruments.  Finding the appropriate gauge string for the octave-c (thinner in gauge than the high A string) for a "gG-cC-EE-AA" tuned 8-string baritone may be next to impossible, unless you can find a string dealer who can make you a custom set.  The closest you may get is the high A string, and it may break if you attempt to tune it to the octave C range.

Thank You, I don't know why i never thought of using the high A String from a Baritone GCEA set. I'm going to try it today and let you know if it works out.

I tried that high a, and it broke lol. How can I get in touch with string companys for a custom set of strings? Like Aquila.

According to their web site, Aquila does not sell at the retail (consumer) level; they only sell to authorized dealers.  The only Aquila 8-string ukulele strings sets in gG-cC-EE-AA tuning are for tenors.  Because of the 2" inch longer neck on the baritone, any attempt to bring tenor strings up to tune on a baritone will either break the strings, warp the neck, or tear the bridge off the top.

The only dealer that I know of that carries Aquila strings for 8-string baritones is Elderly Instruments, and that set is for standard baritone tuning, dD-gG-BB-EE.

Ok thanks lol. Well, I talked to Bob Gleason earlier ( from Hilo Strings). and he said he's going to try out a ukulele with the custom strings. Not sure if he did it yet but i'm still waiting for his email. lol.

Which strings are better btw? Aquila or Hilo for the Baritone.

I've found the solution to the problem. I just tune my Bari to CFAD and now it's all good. :-)

But CFAD is one whole note LOWER than standard DGBE baritone tuning.  Aren't the strings now a bit slack (less than optimum tension) on your baritone in that tuning?  Plus, fingering the 0003 chord is going to give you a F chord rather than G, and if you have any uke music books, you will have to re-learn the fingering of all the chords.

Wouldn't it be better to just tune your baritone the DGBE?  Or just use the strings made for 8-string baritones, dDgGBBEE?

Lol no. It sounds really good and it's not sloppy at all. I have it tuned wound c, regular c, wound f, high f, regular a, high a(from the gcea baritone strings), wound d, regular d. I'll record it on the Internet so you can hear how good it sounds lol. That is how the ukulele in 50 First Dates is tuned when Adam sandler sings "Forgetful Lucy".

If I followed correctly on this thread, you went from trying to tune to gG-cC-EE-AA using special gauge strings for a baritone uke to a tuning that is now six whole notes lower, to one whole note lower than regular baritone tuning. The only instrument I know that is tuned to cC-fF-AA-DD is the modern version of the Greek bouzouki - and only the lower 2 strings are paired with octaves; the other two strings are duplicates. Remember that in this tuning, the chords you are used to playing on a tenor uke or a baritone uke are all going to have different fingerings. Have fun!

Hmm... I was just looking for the high c string so I could tune it wound d, regular d, wound g, high g, regular b, then tune the high c down two pitches to a high b, wound e, regular e. I'm still looking for that high c that would come with the baritone gcea 8 string pack. Does anyone know what string I could use to get that high pitch c string?

Octave tuning is generally not done for every pair of strings; on an 8-string uke (4 pairs), only the lowest 2 strings are paired with strings one octave higher. The two highest pitched strings are doubled (duplicated). For a baritone, the only available 8-string sets are tuned dD-gG-BB-EE. If you insist on using gCEA tuned strings for baritone, you can use a standard baritone G (second lowest) string to pair up with the high G, but you probably will not be able to find a commercially available high octave C string that works on a baritone.  (You would need a string gauge that is thinner than the high A string in order to tune it 2 notes higher to C.)

I found a string that can go to the high c. I used a really thin fishing wire(string) and it works, lol. The tension feels the same as the other strings too.
