I would like to find out if CITES permit is needed if I purchase Erhu online from the States...in general how much would a CITES permit (if it is required) cost.... for me to ship Erhu from the States to Canada?

Thank you for your prompt response! CITES stands for "Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora" My understanding is that WAPPRIITA (Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Regulation Of International and Interprovincial Trade Act) gives specific authority to Wildlife Officiers that enables them to regulate the trade in endangered, threatened and protected species, their parts and derivatives, and products made from them. For CITES species, control is in the form of permits that must be issued prior to export. I know a few specific cases that the shippments of Erhu from other countries i.e. China have been confiscated by the customs (Wildlife Enforcement Division, Canadian Wildlife Service)...so I am just wondering if I purchase and ship erhu(s) from the States...would my shippment meet the same fate?...I am in love with erhu! Of course I also have the option of buying erhu(s) in Canada...variety, quality and selection are my concerns...the cost is also a factor!

Thank you for your useful information...I did purchase a man-made skin Erhu from Eason...personally I like the mellow voice from the man-made...my instructor has commented that the man-made Erhu voice is pretty nice. As you know, Erhu lovers do not stop at having a few Erhus...they like to get their hands on more Erhus...call it passion or greed Imagine if I were to dish out $600 USD for an expensive Erhu...and got confiscated by the Customs...naturally I can not get my money back from anyone...in addition, I would be charged and fined by the Customs and they might even decide to take me to court...as far as I am concerned, this is a nightmare for all the Erhu lovers. Why can't they certified all the Erhus at the manufacturing level...no more guess work and worry for our consumers...I would like to be one of the many happy and worry-free Erhu consumers and collectors. I know Eason offers the CITES option...but what about other online sellers?
