I doubt there's any pickup for erhu now that can produce a better tone that the common Vocal Mic.

I use the following pickup sometimes: http://www.bluestarmusic.com/product-exec/product_id/308/nm/K_K_Sound_Silver_Bullet_Microphone_Instrument_Pickup_1_4_jack The clamp fits on the neck next to the resonator. It does take some getting used to. A mic on a stand is more out-of-the-way. The Silver Bullet fits in my bag easier though. It is plenty good enough for live sound. For recording, a condensor microphone would probably be my choice, rather than a vocal mic. Best wishes, David
