There's been a lot of discussion about the design and materials of bridges, but how do people set their bridges on the erhu? Should it be horizontal, ie at 90 degrees to the strings so that both string lengths are the same? Or should it be turned slightly (clockwise or anti-clockwise)?

Bridges should be in the center of the snake skin and should be horizontal. God Bless Last edited on Thu Jan 8th, 2009 01:20 am by Clyde |

its may not always be in the centre for the case of elongated bridges. they can be placed slightly above the centre. but as for round bridges they have to be smack right in the centre. and i would say just place them horizontally. the diff in pitches are just too minor to consider...

The bridge makes a TREMENDOUS difference to the erhu tone. A good bridge will let the high notes ring out clearly and not muffled.
