I took guitar lessons for a year or so in the late 70's, but put the guitar away when the family started growing and I lost my playing/practice partner.

I've picked up the guitar a few times since then, but nothing serious or prolonged.  I would like to get back to it before arthritis completely kills my dreams of being a famous musician and being chased by the grandmothers of young teen girls. :)

I still remember most of the common open chords, have pulled out the books and began practicing.   I also plan on hitting the jam sessions, which Will has mentioned.  However, it might also be fun to get together with one or more others for a few informal sessions.

I live in Elgin, which is west of Chicago, and the NW and Western suburbs would be idea.  As I said, I'm still fairly new so be forewarned.

Thanks,
Ernie

Hi, Ernie:

There is a regular acoustic music jam open to all acoustic instruments, styles, and skill levels, held every 2nd and 4th Friday evenings in Grayslake, IL, from 8:00 PM to about midnight.  I've been attending the jam regularly since 2003, but the jam has been on-going for more than 20 years.  It's held inside a large church building through the cooperation of the church owners, who provide its use as a community service.  The church is large enough and has enough rooms to accomodate many multiple jams.  Check out the jam, and we might meet in person.  For more details and driving directions, here's the web page that I created for the jam:
