Hi Folks,

Master Old-Time Musician Brad Leftwich will be performing a
Rare Solo Concert September 24th, 2004 and a Clawhammer Banjo
Workshop Spetember 25th, 2004 in Bellville, Ohio. Bellville
is about 65 miles northeast of downtown Columbus (about half-way
between Columbus and Cleveland); the concert will be at the
Bellville Opera House, and the workshop will be at my home,
tucked up in the hills and woods about six miles outside of
Bellville.

Brad Leftwich, as you may well know, is widely regarded as one
of the very finest clawhammer banjo players alive. And he is
perhaps better known for his fine Old-Time fiddling! So, even
if you're not interested in the workshop, I think you really
might enjoy his concert - a rare solo concert featuring his
compelling fiddling, banjo playing, and singing; it'll take
place at the intimate and restored Bellville Opera House, and
a local acoustic musician and jam friend will be handling the
sound duties, so it should sound great!

The Clawhammer Banjo workshop will feature six hours of
instruction in a class limited to ten students (the fiddle
workshop on September 26th now has ten students and is full);
lunch will be included. Brad teaches by ear, and his flexible
style allows him to accommodate most student levels. I took
a few banjo workshops and a private lesson with him at the
first Banjo Camp North, and found him to be a wonderful teacher;
I've heard the same remarks from others about Brad. The fee for
the workshop is $75, payable only in advance by sending a check
by 8/25/04
to:
Bill Miller, 5070 Teeter Road, Bellville, Ohio 44813.
Call (419) 883-3211 or e-mail me at BillMiller@RichwoodMusic.com
if you have any questions. Directions and more details about the
workshop will be sent to all registered students.

More information about the concert and the workshop, plus a
'downloadable' flyer are available here:

Thanks for considering the workshop and I hope to maybe see you
at the concert! Below, I have copied Brad's impressive biographical
information from the web site
 http://www.tombradalice.com/brad.html :
--------------------------------------------------------------
"Known for the purity of his sound and his devotion to tradition,
Brad Leftwich has been sharing his love of old-time music with
audiences for some 30 years. His virtuoso fiddling has been
acclaimed by critics in such journals as Billboard, Fiddler
Magazine, Bluegrass Unlimited, and The Old-Time Herald. He is
also an accomplished banjo player and singer.

Brad grew up in Oklahoma, in a family with musical and cultural
roots in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, and his music
reflects the traditions of both those areas. In addition to
carrying on his family's music, he spent years seeking out and
learning from older-generation musicians in the southern
Appalachians and in Oklahoma and the Ozarks.

Brad was a founding member of the Plank Road String Band in the
mid-seventies and toured with his wife Linda as Leftwich &
Higginbotham throughout the 1980s and & 1990s. Today Brad is
among the foremost old-time musicians of his generation.
Recordings of his music appear on respected independent
labels such as Rounder, County, Copper Creek, and Marimac.

Brad has won the prestigious fiddle contest at the Appalachian
String Band Music Festival in Clifftop, West Virginia. His bands
have won at Clifftop, placed at the fiddlers convention in Galax,
Virginia, performed at venues from the White House to the
Philadelphia Folk Festival, and toured both in the U.S. and abroad.

Brad is especially regarded for his teaching of traditional
fiddle and banjo style. He is a frequent staff member at the
major workshops and teaching camps throughout the country.
He has a book on Round Peak style clawhammer banjo published
by Mel Bay, and two old-time fiddle teaching videos released
by Homespun Tapes."
