Hybrid musical instruments have a long history, and that includes mandolin hybrids such as the mando-banjo. In 2002, Gibson came out with a 6-string mandolin-guitar hybrid that sold for a pricey $3000 (unbelieveably, it's now selling for over $5,000). It has a guitar neck and plays like a guitar, but one octave higher. Goldtone then came out with their much more affordable $350 version of the 6-string mando-guitar, the Goldtone GM6 six-string mandolin, which I bought clearance priced for $199 (now sold out) at Woodwind & Brasswind (also owned now by Guitar Center). This mando-guitar hybrid sells for about $300 or so elsewhere: http://elderly.com/new_instruments/items/GTM6.htm The Goldtone link below also features a sound clip of the instrument: http://www.goldtone.com/products/details/w/instrument/93/GM-6-GM-6-Mandolin ![]()
