| " I got into Old Time Clawhammer banjo at the beginning of college in the L.A. area- got involved in the Old Time music scene down there '72-'76. I was in two string bands- one that was very Old Time "78 rpm" oriented, and another that did Irish tunes with one instrumentation with me on guitar and Fuzzy Mtn. style Appalachian with me on fiddle. Moved to Northern California, and got rather isolated, but kept playing on my own till 1990, when I traded my fiddle away 'cause I wasn't playing it. Took up fiddle again in May 2005. Chops are mostly back, but the left hand is still a bit shaky... I have my good and bad days! It's hard not to dabble a bit in other genres, including Swedish, Irish, Scottish, and Bluegrass fiddling. I'm notorious for analyzing bowing and for tweaking my guitars, banjos, and fiddles. I also sing, mostly country-folk, but other styles as well. " |
