Re: Report Spammers Here
| It's okay to report spammers but not really necessary... I'll see their posts on the main page. There have been quite a few and it'll probably continue for a while but they're easy to track down and I can ban their IP address and their email and delete all their posts with just a couple clicks so it's not a big problem. | ||

Re: Report Spammers Here
| At present there are many more spams than there are legitimate posts on the community blog! I don't know if CAPTCHA would make any difference. Some of these spammers have even uploaded a profile image -- I doubt a robot would do that [rolleyes] | ||

Re: Report Spammers Here
| Oy! There were six different new spammers today. I've gotten rid of them for the time being and I've also re-enabled the CAPTCHA system and I think that should help the spam problem but it's also annoying for people who are signing up. We'll see if the CAPTCHA helps and if not there are other things we can do a step at a time if needed. | ||

Hopefully the captcha will help, but don't be surprised to find that the spammers get through and that they continue to appear frequently. The 3 Hangouts have a reporting system to the moderators, and a thread like this one I started exactly BECAUSE of the continuing spamming they get. I've even gotten spam on my site (which only comes in the way of emails through a "blind" send link). The spammers are now getting paid to sit at their terminal and attempt to get onto sites and post their junk. I really don't see it improving, and I've read elsewhere that there are programs that do nothing but attempt to break captcha filters - they are getting better at decoding the required input. |
