How time flies! It’s now been about five months since the big server meltdown. My medical transcription business that has kept me overworked for years is just about to screech to a halt. As of this week I only have about half as much work as I did last week, which is finally freeing up some time to work on the website again. It’s something I’ve missed doing and I’m looking forward to getting everything back in order. I started working on the ezFolk site in the fall of 1999 — almost 13 years ago as I write this. Things have changed a lot during that time and there have been a lot of the advancements in technology, so maybe we’ll be able to take advantage of some of the new tools available.
We’re off to a surprisingly good start in rebuilding the MP3 section and I appreciate the artists who have come back to share their music. Right now we have 95 artists and 837 MP3s that have been played over 28,000 times. Those aren’t huge numbers but not bad either. It makes me think there’s hope for a lot more growth in the coming years. Even with all of the changes in technology, there are always going to be people who want to create and share their own music. That’s what ezFolk is about and here’s hoping we have many great years still to come!
If you uploaded songs prior to today (12/08/11) they’re probably set to “Streaming Only” because of the settings. I changed the default setting just now to “Streaming + Downloading” but an artist needs to change their own songs to make them downloadable. Here’s how…
(In your Control Panel)
Click on “Modify Song”
Set “HIFI Listener Access” to Streaming + Downloading
Then click “Modify Song” at the bottom of the page.
That should do it!
Time to sign up and get your songs back online at ezFolk!
As you may know, back in October 2011 we lost everything in the music section including more than 3,700 artists and 12,000 MP3s. A server crash took it out, the backups were somehow destroyed, and that was that. I thought about just closing down, then I thought about just going back to the original focus of ezFolk, which was the tutorials, but that’s no fun, so let’s see if we can build it back up!
We may never get back to the size we once were, but there’s somethng refreshing about starting over, so let’s get it going.
