Lord I Hope This Day Is Good – Travis Picking #Ukulele with Chords and Lyrics

“Lord I Hope This Day Is Good” was written by Dave Hanner and became a #1 country hit for Don Williams in 1981.

 

This song uses “Travis Picking” fingerstyle accompaniment on the ukulele. Many of my songs use the same technique and it’s simple once you get the hang of it, although it may take quite a bit of practicing it slowly to master it.

There is a Time – Clawhammer #Ukulele with Tablature

“There is a Time” was written by Rodney Dillard and Mitch Jayne and performed by their group, The Dillards, also known as The Darling Family, back in the early 1960s on The Andy Griffith Show. The most memorable performance was probably when Charlene Darling (Maggie Peterson) sang it. The Dillards’ version is straight-up bluegrass, but in one episode Andy Griffith played it and sang one verse in a very slow “folksie” style, which I really liked since it really highlighted the beautiful lyrics.

 

It’s become somewhat of a bluegrass standard and has been recorded by Alan Jackson, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and others.

 

My version lands somewhere in between The Dillards and Andy Griffith as I played it clawhammer ukulele style at a medium speed. I’m posting two tablatures on my site — one basic and another more advanced. Neither is “exactly” what I played but the more advanced version is close to what I played. I actually recorded the song first then created the tablature afterwards, trying to emulate on tab what I was playing, but not being too exact about it since I probably didn’t play it exactly the same way each time. I played the break four times on my recording, and if you happen to hear a sour note during the second break it’s because I flubbed it up but didn’t want to have to record it again. I figure if I played everything perfectly I’d probably be rich and famous, but I don’t and I’m not so there ya go.

Till There Was You – #Ukulele Strum-Along with Chords and Lyrics

“Till There Was You” was written by Meredith Willson on 1950. It was featured in the Broadway musical “The Music Man” in 1957 then became a Top 40 hit for Anita Bryant in 1959. It was sung by Shirley Jones in the 1962 movie, “The Music Man.” The Beatles recorded it on their second album and the widow of Meredith Willson said they received more royalties from the Beatles recording than they made from the play.

 

I played it in the key of C as a ukulele strum-along. There are quite a few chords but all are pretty easy to play.

Moon River – Fingerstyle #Ukulele with Chords and Lyrics

The music for “Moon River” was written by Henry Mancini and lyrics by Johnny Mercer for the 1961 movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” It won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and also won the 1962 Grammy Awards for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year. It became the theme song for Andy Williams and has been recorded by pretty much everybody.

I played this song using the 3/4 fingerstyle pattern below…

Hobo’s Lullaby – #Ukulele Travis Picking with Chords and Lyrics

Goebel Reeves wrote and recorded this song in 1936. He set his lyrics to the melody of the Civil War song, “After the Battle Mother.” It has become a standard among the folk music crowd and has been recorded by many including Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, Woody Guthrie, and Emmylou Harris among others.

 

I played it as a 3-chord song in the key of G with fingerstyle accompaniment.
