“You’re My Best Friend” (not to be confused with the Queen song of the same name) was written by Wayland Holyfield and recorded by Don Williams in 1975. It went to #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and was Williams’ second of his seventeen #1 songs.
I played it in the key of F, which suits my voice best, but it’s an easy 3-chord song and if you prefer a different key it’s easy to transpose. Instead of the key of F (F, Bb, C7) you can instead play the key of G (G, C, D7) or the key of C (C, F, G7).
This song uses “Travis Picking” fingerstyle accompaniment on the ukulele. Many of my songs use the same technique and it’s simple once you get the hang of it, although it may take quite a bit of practicing it slowly to master it.
