Green Green Grass of Home – #Ukulele Travis Picking with Chords and Lyrics

Curly Putman wrote “Green Green Grass of Home” and it became a big country hit for Porter Wagoner in 1965 and a worldwide hit for Tom Jones in 1966.

This song uses “Travis Picking” fingerstyle accompaniment on the ukulele. Many of my songs use the same technique and it’s simple once you get the hang of it, although it may take quite a bit of practicing it slowly to master it.

The first three example patterns on my fingerstyle tutorial show you how to play it. Here’s a link:

Seminole Wind – #Ukulele Strum-Along with Chords and Lyrics

John Anderson wrote and released “Seminole Wind” in 1992 and the song reached the #2 spot on the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart. It’s since been covered by other artists including Donna the Buffalo and James Taylor.

It’s usually played in the key of Em, and it’s really easy to play since the chord progression repeats the same four chords throughout the song.

Since the Em chord is a little more difficult for some uke players, I decided to record it in Dm instead, so the chords are Dm, F, C, and G, and those repeat with no variation throughout the song (1 measure each).

Sunday Morning Coming Down – #Ukulele Travis Picking with Chords and Lyrics

Kris Kristofferson wrote “Sunday Morning Coming Down” and released it on his album, “Kristofferson,” but before his release it was recorded and released by Ray Stevens and reached the Top 100 on both the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart as well as the Hot 100. The biggest success for the song came for Johnny Cash in 1970 when his live version became a #1 single and won the Country Music Association award for Song of the Year.

I played it fingerstyle in the key of C.

Loving Her Was Easier – #Ukulele Travis Picking with Chords & Lyrics

“Loving Her Was Easier (Than Anything I’ll Ever Do Again)” was written and recorded by Kris Kristofferson in 1971.It reached as high as #26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #4 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Since then it’s been recorded by many other artists including Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Roger Miller.

I played it in the key of C and the chord changes are really simple, so it’s a great song for beginners. If you’re a beginner, you can disregard the fingerpicking and just strum along. Sounds great either way.

It’s a Crazy World – #Ukulele Travis Picking with Chords and Lyrics

“It’s a Crazy World” was written by singer-songwriter Mac McAnally when he was just 16 years old. It wasn’t a huge hit although it did reach #37 on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s been a favorite of mine since I heard Doc Watson’s version on his 1978 album, “Look Away.”

Let It Be Me (Everly Brothers) – #Ukulele Strum-Along with Chords and Lyrics

“Let It Be Me” was a big hit from the Everly Brothers in 1959. It was originally a French song published as “Je t’appartiens” in 1955 and the American version was an interpretation of that. Since then it’s become a standard that has been recorded by countless artists.
