This was the very first video I ever posted to YouTube on January 1, 2007! At that time, I called it “Ukey Duel Dandy” because copyrighted songs were not allowed on YouTube, and I was afraid it would be kicked off of YouTube if I called it Dueling Banjos. I had recently joined YouTube, and somebody (I don’t remember who or where) asked if Dueling Banjos could be played on the uke. I had never “formally” learned it although I played it on the banjo and guitar previously. I messed around with it a few times then made this recording. I didn’t have a tablature for it and didn’t intend to do one, but over the years, people kept requesting it. Then, seven years after recording it, I finally transcribed it into tablature, at least as nearly as possible. So here’s the tablature. It’s nine pages, so it took me that long to talk myself into getting it done.
The arrangement itself is not complicated at all if you already know how to play clawhammer ukulele. If you don’t know the technique and want to learn it, the four videos of my Clawhammer Tutorial will teach you all you need to know to play this song or any others I teach in the clawhammer style.
If you need help reading tablature, watch my video on How to Read Tablature.
